Texas State breaks 11 enrollment records for Fall 2026: 47,513 students, tuition frozen through 2027

Texas State University opened Fall 2026 with 47,513 students — a new record, up 7% on the record set only last year — drawn from 83,479 applications, also the most in the university’s history. Eleven enrollment records fell in a single semester.

The line that matters most to families: tuition frozen since 2021
Buried in President Kelly Damphousse’s statement is the number parents should read first: the university has not raised tuition since 2021 and has committed to keeping it flat through 2027. While many U.S. universities raise tuition every year, a family planning for Fall 2027 entry can budget at today’s price.
He also pointed to two cost-cutting directions being expanded: the Bobcat Promise program and the creation of future three-year bachelor’s degrees — a full year less of tuition, housing and living costs if and when they arrive.

How to read these numbers as an international applicant
You will be in the 5%
2,222 international students out of 47,513 — about 4.7%. The university’s graphic puts Texans at 92%. You will study in a genuinely American environment, not a separate international enclave.
Graduate growth is the steepest
Graduate enrollment up 20%, new research doctoral students up 67%. The university is deliberately expanding graduate programs — teaching and research assistantships come with that.
Round Rock up 37%
The campus near Austin reached 4,003 students; Electrical Engineering opens there in Fall 2027.
Science & Engineering remains the largest college at 10,105 students and will split into two colleges in Fall 2027. Health Professions grew fastest (+1,079) to become the second largest at 6,949. McCoy College of Business reached 6,764. These are also the three fields international applicants ask about most — see Engineering, Health, Business.
