Residence halls at TXST
TXST operates more than 20 residence halls across the San Marcos campus, from traditional halls (double rooms, shared bathrooms by floor) to suite-style and apartment-style buildings (2–4 students sharing a unit with a kitchenette and private bathroom). Halls near Alkek Library and The Quad are popular with international students for their central location and diverse community.
- Traditional halls: the most affordable option, ideal if you want to save and socialize.
- Suite-style: two bedrooms sharing one bathroom — more privacy.
- Apartment-style: kitchen and living room — suited to upper-year and graduate students.
Reference costs
The Housing & Food line in TXST's 2026–2027 cost of attendance is about $13,330 for 9 months (meal plan included). Actual cost varies by room type: traditional halls are cheaper, apartment-style higher. Housing contracts typically cover the academic year (Fall + Spring).
How to apply
- After your admission letter, activate your TXST student account (NetID).
- Submit the housing application through the Department of Housing and Residential Life portal and pay the deposit.
- Rank your preferred halls and room types; you may request a roommate.
- Receive your room assignment by email before the term starts.
Tip: popular halls fill up fast — apply as soon as you are admitted, don't wait for your visa.
What international students should prepare
- Bedding, a desk lamp and basics are available at Target/Walmart in San Marcos on day one — no need to pack them.
- U.S. outlets are 110V with flat prongs — bring an adapter for devices from home.
- Halls include Wi-Fi, laundry on each floor, common rooms and Resident Assistants available 24/7.
